Mission Opportunity

Starting today and continuing through September 7, the youth of St. Philips will be collecting small cat food/water bowls and small litter pans (18x12) or smaller.  In Genesis 1, God gives humans dominion over all the earth and I interpret that to mean we have a responsibility for all the creatures that need help.  Lets live out our faith this month by helping out our fur ball little friends.  There will be a container for this outside the youth loft.  On September 7 we will head to the Williamson County Shelter to help them out in person.  Here is our flyer.

Video on the Front Page

I hope you viewed the video on the initial page of this website.  Its a pretty cool video that some of our youth did and produced by Chris Adams and I hope we will continue to make more videos in the future.  The content of the video is a bit strange for us post-modern Christians.  God tells the Israelites to kill people!?! What is that all about? First of all, the Moabites were oppressing the Israelites, essentially they were forcing the Israelites to do things against their will.  It would be like a neighborhood bully who always stole your lunch money.  The people of God cried out and were delivered by God through a Judge named Ehud.  Now the danger would be to try and assume that we (America) are the people of God and that God has sent us to war right now.  It doesn't work that way.  Fortunately God only fought wars on behalf of Israel in the Old Testament.  A scary thing happens when secular governments try to use passages like this to make Christians believe they are fighting a holy war:  the Crusades, Colonialism and even Hitler used this technique.  As Christians we know there is a better way of love and hope and faith and that war should be the last option; only to be used if there is no other course of action.  Go love and be loved this week, sharing the compassion of Jesus with all you meet!
